taki is local-first. What it learns about your work stays on your Mac.

what taki reads, on your Mac

what taki keeps

Everything lives in ~/Library/Application Support/taki: your settings, one activity line per minute, what taki thinks you're working on (and before that), your journal (one Markdown file per day), and your license key. Delete the folder and it's gone.

what leaves your Mac

Your license key. taki checks it with Polar (api.polar.sh) when you activate it and about once a day after that. It sends the key and your Mac's name, so you can tell your activations apart.

The weather, only if you turn it on in config (it's off by default). About once an hour taki asks MET Norway (api.met.no) for the forecast at your time zone's main city, rounded to about 10 km: Buenos Aires for anyone set to Buenos Aires time. No location permission, no GPS, nothing else. Like any request, it reaches them from your IP address. Weather data by MET Norway, CC BY 4.0.

Nothing about your work is sent. No analytics, no tracking, no account.

buying taki

Polar is the merchant of record. It handles your payment, receipt and license key under its own privacy policy, at polar.sh.

No cookies and no analytics. Fonts load from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address when a page loads.

If you send an idea from the landing page, its text is emailed to the developer through Cloudflare. If you leave your email, it goes along so the developer can reply; otherwise nothing else is attached: no name, no tracking. It isn't stored anywhere else.
